Towards a Financially Inclusive and Sustainable Society: Strengthening Literacy and Resilience
Today's world is marked by a succession of interlinked crises, which can be described as "polycrises" (Lawrence et al., 2024). These crises, whose impacts accumulate and reinforce each other, include geopolitical conflicts, the rise of extreme poverty, inflation, the real estate crisis, and growing distrust in financial institutions.
This distrust is fueled by unexpected events, such as bank runs, and the growing attraction of younger generations, particularly millennials, to crypto-assets, which serve as alternatives to traditional savings products. The 2022 Nobel Prize in Economics, awarded to Bernanke, Diamond, and Dybvig, underscores the crucial importance of preventing bank collapses.
The deluge of misinformation, or "fake news," on social media reinforces consumer distrust and creates a self-fulfilling prophecy: "Seeing is not believing" (Saint-Thomas), but "we only see what we believe" (William Thomas). The example of Silicon Valley Bank, whose failure in March 2023 was hastened by massive deposit withdrawals following negative Twitter posts, illustrates the dangers of this dynamic.
This call for papers invites researchers in marketing and finance to reflect on the general theme of the study day: how to promote a financially inclusive and sustainable society by strengthening financial literacy and the resilience of individuals and institutions in a context of polycrises?
For communications with good potential, and given the interest of the topic addressed, the scientific committee encourages the author(s) to submit their project to ranked journals (CNRS list), especially those of the French Marketing Association (Décisions Marketing - CNRS Rank 3, Recherche et Applications en Marketing - CNRS Rank 2, Revue Française de Gestion - CNRS Rank 3).
The award is given based on a "competitive paper" system. The selection committee will be responsible for designating the best communication presented at the GIT-afm "Marketing and Finance" research day.
